For almost 20 years, we've built a Halloween haunted trail in the modest yard between our house and the neighbor's. Our neighborhood is a popular spot for trick-or-treaters, and if the weather cooperates we'll get 300 visitors in the course of the evening.
I've been slowly adding new homemade animatronics over the years- this year I'm debuting two new creations, in honor of the 50th anniversary of Dungeons and Dragons. My beholder uses a display motor to drive the tentacles, while my Beholder runs off an old rotisserie motor.
Frankie, the giant troll at the entrance to the path, has been a neighborhood favorite for years. He's been rebuilt several times, surviving blizzards, gale-force winds and thrown pumpkins. He's constructed from spray foam over a chicken wire and welded rebar armature.
